The realm of matrescence: a magical transformation where sleep becomes a luxury and your heart grows three sizes in an instant.

Let me introduce myself

Hello and welcome! I am a Chartered Senior Clinical Psychologist (C.Clin. Psychol., Ps.S.I.), Holistic Sleep Coach, and mother of two. With over 13 years of extensive experience working with children and families, I gained a whole new perspective on parenting when I became a parent myself. This firsthand experience revealed to me that much of the information available to parents is outdated or does not accurately reflect the realities of everyday parenting.

As a passionate advocate for challenging unrealistic expectations of 'perfect' parenting and debunking common misconceptions based on textbook definitions of babies, I founded The Mothering Psychologist. My aim is to empower parents by sharing my own parenting journey through the unique lens of a clinical psychologist and a parent, helping them feel confident in supporting their child's development.

I firmly believe that there is no such thing as a perfect parent, and every parenting journey is unique. By letting go of unrealistic expectations and embracing child-focused parenting practices that recognize each child as an individual, I strive to assist parents in connecting with and nurturing their children so they can truly thrive.

My journey in the field of psychology began with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the National University of Ireland in 2010. Building upon this foundation, I pursued a Master of Science in Applied Psychology at Trinity College Dublin in 2012. Determined to deepen my expertise, I went on to complete a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, also at Trinity College, in 2018. As a Chartered member of The Psychological Society of Ireland, I uphold the highest standards of professional practice. I have gained extensive experience working with young children, adolescents and parents across a variety of settings including primary care and children’s disability services, especially within the area of neurodivergence in general and autism more specifically. I am particularly passionate about infant mental health, attachment, parenting, navigating parenting and the matrescence journey, and supporting families of neurodivergent children through comprehensive assessment and intervention.

In addition to my clinical psychology background, I have honed my skills as a Holistic Sleep Coach (OCN Level 6) and a registered Circle of Security Parent Facilitator. This diverse range of qualifications equips me with a comprehensive understanding of child development, sleep patterns, and the crucial parent-child bond.

At The Mothering Psychologist, I invite you to join me on a journey of exploration and growth. Together, we can challenge the myths and misconceptions surrounding parenting, allowing you to embrace your unique parenting style and foster a deep connection with your child. Remember, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to parenting, and it is through embracing the individuality of each child that we can create an environment where they can truly thrive.

Thank you for visiting The Mothering Psychologist. I look forward to supporting you on your parenting journey!
